when they first came out... the max I would have paid is $300... which I did.

I was able to get one off of ebay for @$225 with the live cashback mid december.

now the max i'll pay is $230.
ps.. i work at mc parttime.

and if it ever comes under $200... i'll buy another.
can already get the mem from newegg trichannel 3gig kits for $65.
now just need a decent sub $200 motherboard to go with it.

Yeah the boards are WAY too pricey, and here the Core i7 is quite tough to get a hold of even, and if u can its like $300+ if i calculated correctly which is INSANE, i will pay bout $200 for that CPU

in terms of performance it's about on par with a Q9xxx maybe slightly better. So I say it's about $300 in my mind, although I wouldn't pay that much for a cpu. get it with some type of sale you can probably have it for less than 250.

I paid $295 at newegg but got a free intel back pack and free shipping so its wasnt so bad.
Now though I dont think I would pay more then $225 for this cpu.
If it ever drops to $200 or below I may grab another one just for shits and giggles..

have to compare equals. Q9550+ is/was higher priced than the i7 920. Microcenter has the best price I've seen, which makes the about equally price again. EX58-UD3 is $200-

Easily justifiable if you can use an i7. In my case the diff was around $200

Who cares what the actual I7 CPU costs, as long as a mobo and ram cost 300 more than the same DDR2 and C2Q mobo I don't think many people will consider the I7 platform.

Yeah, but what if you don't have a Microcenter near you? Is there anywhere online you can get it for under $250?

Apparently not the Core i7 920... On the right it says "Availability: IN-STORE PICKUP ONLY".

Can we say, OFF TOPIC?

Make a new thread and maybe I'll answer your question.
