Kkkkk from the ocworkbench pic you can see that the 3D MARK vantage scores 10,075 on CPU and when my friend bought the Core i7 whole kit and all we tested it via 3D MARK and his i7 with 6GB DDR "ultra expensive memory" and a bit cheaper motherboard scored 11,1xx on the CPU.

You know what that means don't you !!!!!!! PII 940 @ 3Ghz is almost as fast as a core i7 @ 2.66Ghz... Plus you don't have to spend a small fortune "Or your laptop money" on expensive kits or motherboard's...!!!

EDIT:- Let me clarify ppl with AM2+ motherboard's and the whole setup can get better performance than the C2C series but not the i7 with a simple CPU upgrade. People like me who came from a AM2 Athlon X2 to a LGA 775 platform know of the problems of changing total platforms. I am planning to stay with my Q6600 *cough INTEL* for at least 1/2 a year.
I am just happy and excited that AMD can actually make up quite a bit of profit on these buggers and intel will not sell their i7 920 at $500 when AMD is around.

In any case I'll be waiting for actual real world results before I consider even considering buying an entirely new platform. I just bought this Q9550 and expect to keep it until Intels 32nm at least. If this turns out to be typical of i7/P2 (can't wait for the P4s), it's not all bad news though, only 300MHz and some performance. Actually the news could be quite good, really. They'd be competitive.

You do know that a Q9450 gets 10900, right? Not to mention the lowest C2Q with 12MB cache is now the Q9550 which has an even higher score and can be had for around the same.

Let's see some game benches first :)

But if it scores fine, all the people with AM2+ boards will have a good chip available for upgrade (finally! :)). Unless of course it is given a silly price point (like 400$+ or something for the 940 model).

I wouldn't conclude anything from a single crappy benchmark in seperate environments.

Yea,first without any source in the very beginning, second using a 3 Ghz to compare with a 2.66 Ghz,great AMD finally gets a processor that almost comparable to i7 when clock 340mhz higher? You know what even a 2.6Ghz 9950be is quite comparable to a 2.4Ghz Q6600 at stock,so with a 200 mhz advantage, did people think AMD had the crown back then?(We are even neglecting the overclockability here)Please Use something at similar clock first place if you are to make a fair comparison, and quote with sources(reliable of course).

Err he said he and his friend ran 3D Mark themselves. And yes comparing an OCed chip to a stock isn't a fair comparison in most cases. He's just psyched that he's scoring almost the same (not like CPU differences impact the score THAT much nowadays among all the top class chips). Let him enjoy the moment more before he realizes that an i7 would crush any system he has when an app that seriously uses more than 4 cores is the benchmark.

I know some loyal AMD fans have been waiting forever to bring AMD back in the game, but seriously if one was to make a unfair comparison here to give some people a wrong idea that AMD is actully leading now,it's just misleading people.Next time if one is to compare processors between Intel and Amd,use similar clock processors then run some fully stressed encoding/rendering benchmarks,if AMD comes out on top that way,I would gladly congratulate AMD :)

Not even close, Core i7 920 @ 2.66GHz scores ~17,000 CPU in 3D Mark Vantage: http://service.futuremark.com/...0&compareResultType=19

In Vantage CPU test Phenom II @ 3GHz performs around a C2Q @ 2.66GHz. Not bad but not really impressive either.

It's all going to come down to price. If the high-end PII can compete with the high-end Nehalem (i7) but costs substantially less than AMD wins, Intel loses and we the consumers win (for a change).:)

Ya i guess you are rite about the 17K score. Tried the test again but the cup was getting quite hot at around 70C so waiting to get a better heat sink before running other stress related prog's.

Also i do think i7 can crush a PII 940 @ 3Ghz in multi core apps but the fact is that AMD is back in the game. As for people who think i am an AMD fan boy i use a Q6600 for crying out loud that intel not amd ...!!

We don't really know if AMD is back in the game yet. It would be GREAT if they were.

@False Christian: No, AMD does not "win". WE win.

And zsdersw beat me to the comment he made above. ;)

Amm i only had 3 AMD CPU's ever. Athlon XP 2400, Athlon 64 3700+ and the X2 4000+.

On the other hand i had Pentium MMX "Cried like hell to get it, the games it played were wonderfull" , P2 , P3 "Coppermine" @ near 1ghz , P4 "Prescott" and now a C2C Q6600.

So that's 3 AMD processors and 5 Intel ones...!!!

The point is not how many intel or amd you've had before,it's about the way you compared the two processors, you sounded like a 3.0Ghz Deneb getting close to a 2.66Ghz i7 would suddenly make AMD the top notch(that's even based on if your result was correct).Fact is if Deneb would win that way,a Phenom 9950be would have won at 2.6Ghz Vs a Q6600 2.4Ghz,cause it's said to be pretty much equal to a Q6600 at stock, but if you use your logical sense to think about it,would the top of the line of PhenomII at 3.0Ghz compared to a 2.66Ghz i7 be fair comparison with a 340mhz advantage, why didnt you use a i7 940/965e in the very beginning if you wanted to prove Deneb's IPC improvement,or I bet even a Q9650 at exactly 3.0Ghz would still blow away your PhenomII 940,Clock for clock comparison is the most accurate result after all :)

Good for AMD. Now after jan. We should all be happy. This is a nice forum and it could be nicer. Looks like to me Deneb is a peace maker. Now lets get graphics to the point were it just doesn't matter who makes what.

Yep. See my sig. :) I will happily buy a Phenom II system next year if I feel like I want more cores. The price will be too compelling to ignore.
