Core i7 platform to be high end only

I found this piece of information today and I was thinking "huh I guess the core i7 is a high end brand now..."

What do you guys think? And here I was thinking that "Core i5"'s release would make things cheaper for core i7. Given, that the core i7 was a high end platform to start off...but I never quite imagined it was this high..hmm.

Thanks in advance for posting.

i5 won't drive down i7 prices if thats what you were hoping for, i7 is equivalent to the X870 of ATI cards and the X800/X80 of nVidia cards, they also release a X850/X600/X60 for a more middle market, usually a lot of sales here though.

And i7 was never meant to be the typical everyday home usage type of processor, anything above an E5xxx is just ridiculous for 80% of home users that just browse/watch movies/music/light gaming. 95% of people don't even have uses for a Q series quad core, and i7 is a step above that.

Errr don't get the analogy too much but I think I got it. "Too hot of an item to be driven down in price" is what your saying?
