I will be reusing the monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard and OS.
I will not be overclocking.
I will be using this rig to mid-high end gaming.
Are these parts good?
Which case do you recommend? I care about function over form.

I just need 1 vote of confidence and I'm going to order.

Thank you.

Radeon 4890 for $215 - http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=MSI-48901G saves you $30. The money you save here needs to go towards a GA-X58-UD4P or ASUS P6T. Buy a real X58 motherboard with the full compliment of DIMM slots. This isn't a cheap disposable build, this is a $1k+ i7 build and cutting corners is going to cost you later.

Get yourself a nice heat tower from Thermalright, Prolimatech, or Noctua, and do a spot of overclocking. If you aren't going to overclock, consider an E8500/P45 setup, because the only difference you will notice in games is the extra $300 you saved on the build. i7 is not a "mid-high end" platform, it's a niche enthusiast platform and if you aren't going to deck it out with multiple GPUs and outrageous overclocks, you aren't going to break away from the same mainstream performance dual cores are getting at slightly higher frequencies. It would be pretty sick to put this all in a Panzerbox case but I'm not sure if they are available for sale yet.

You encouraged me to totally rethink my upgrade path.

Since I read in another thread that LGA 775 is being phased out, I'm now more inclined to go with the AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE. Most rigs here with the AMD chip is around $900. I'll post a new thread soon.

Thanks.
