Well, my current system (A64 3700+, 2GB OCZ PC3200, 7800GT) has been going strong for the past four years, but it's time to move on, as it's showing its age.

Anyways, I have a strict budget of $1125 INCLUDING SHIPPING to build a new Core i7 gaming rig. Also, this rig MUST have a quad core CPU, as ArmA 2 will take extensive advantage of it.

Here are my answers to the obligatory questions:

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc

Gaming (ArmA 2, Empire: Total War, etc.), light recording/audio work

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?

$1125 after shipping (I am in TN, so Newegg is out of the question because they add 10% sales tax to TN residents...I usually use ZipZoomFly and MWave)[/b]

3) Where do you live?

Memphis, TN

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.

Pretty much the whole "box" (but not the peripherals like keyboard, monitor, etc.)

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.

WD 640GB storage drive (still need a boot drive), monitor, KB, mouse, speakers

6) Will you be overclocking?

Not really

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?

22" Samsung 225BW

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?

This week

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.

At least three SATA ports, and I'd prefer HD Audio.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license?

No, but I plan on using Windows 7 Release Candidate

Thanks for all the help!

We're not here to just do work for you, put some effort in and make a build, then we can help and tell you where you can save money or went wrong.

Easy bud, that's why I'm asking here...

Anyways:

ASUS P6T SE - $194
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...0451&prodlist=celebros

Intel Core i7 920 - $277
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...9642&prodlist=celebros

OCZ 6GB (2x3GB) DDR3-1600 Platinum - $89.80
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...9825&prodlist=celebros

XFX HD4890 1GB - $197.99
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...0262&prodlist=celebros

Corsair CMPSU-650TX 650w PSU - $97.99
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...7111&prodlist=celebros

Western Digital 640GB Black SATA - $73.89
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...0082&prodlist=celebros

Samsung SH-S223L SATA DVD-RW Drive - $29.00
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...0714&prodlist=celebros

Windows 7 Beta - $0

Case - Undecided...I really like the Lian Li PC-7FWB, but at $140, it's a little more than I'd like to spend. If I were to add a Cooler Master RC-590, for instance, I could get out for $1034. That would leave me room to get a Xigmatek Dark Knight, if I change my mind about OCing.

Whaddayou talking about firewolf? We start from scratch all the time

Since OP just listed a build, I'll go from there

I'd upgrade the HD to a Samsung F1 1TB, unless you're planning on RAID with the two 640gb's. Also I'd go with a cheaper case, Antec 300/CM 590/690 + aftermarket cooler, like the Xigmatek or a TRUE

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I have no need for the 1TB though. The current 640GB plus the other 640GB will be PLENTY.

As far as cases, I'm looking at the Cooler Master ones primarily. What exactly is different/better about the 690 compared to the 590?

That's what I thought when I bought my first 1TB. I now have 5TB and am upgrading soon

Not much.. the 690 has better hard drive bays, and a slightly better interior design (IMO), and looks a bit better on the outside. Beyond that, they're virtually the same.

It will be plenty, trust me, :D. I'm still only using 300GB on this drive. I could probably even use it as my only drive for this build, but I don't have any convenient way of backing up everything on there at the moment. Just curious, what all do you have that takes up 5TB? (I'm being completely sincere).

Also, I have an important question about the RAM. Some folks on other forums have said that I should avoid the OCZ RAM because of the high voltage it runs at (1.65v). Any thoughts?

Uncompressed blu-rays from my netflix subscription plus an external backup in my 2TB Cavalry take up 4TB, another TB for my os/games/apps/music/torrent scratch
