Core i7 930 - Overclocking Question

Hi ..

Where can I find a good guide to overclock this CPU ?

I have Alienware Aurora X58 Chipset with 24 GB RAM (1333) .. It came with it's closed loop watercooling.

I've tried changing CPU Multiplier, but it doesn't change .. Memory Multiplier was possible to change though ..

Default was 133 Bus Speed, 21x CPU Multiplier and 10x Memory Multiplier .. I've changed the Bus speed from 133 to 167 and reduced memory multiplier to 8x .. this way I've got memory at 1337 and CPU at 3.5GHz ..

I feel the CPU has more potential to overclock .. Heard of people crossing 4 GHz .. but don't know how .. can anyone guide me please ? Also, is it normal to not be able to change CPU Multiplier ?

What are your intentions in overclocking it? What is the PC used for? I'm guessing gaming being it's an Alienware. That processor should be good up to and around 4 to 4.2Ghz depending. If it's a multi purpose machine I wouldn't push it too far due to loss of data integrity. A file may fall apart and become unusable. I've seen it on my machine starting with photo files.

In the bios under overclocking you can change you cpu Multipliers but that [may] not work if your cpu is set at auto.
First you need to go to the bios setting named cpu options and take you cpu off auto first.

The highest that multi will go is 21, not including "Turbo." Overclocking a Nehalem is different than the newer generation K chips where all you do is change the multiplier from stock up to whatever.

One thing to remember. "What is the maximum safe memory voltage??? This is determined by two things: first, NEVER INCREASE THE MEMORY VOLTAGE MORE THAN +0.5V OF THE CPU VTT VALUE" - from that article.. meaning keep the memory voltage WITHIN .5v of the CPU VTT.

I only take what I want from any guide and this disregard the rest.
That states Maxium safe voltage and in oc there is no maxium safe voltage to me.
When I use my cpu vtt of 1.27 or 1.34v +0.5V = 1.77 or 1.84 which seems high to me.
My 930 has some gskill pi memory that I would not overvolt anyways.
That guide got me to 4200MHz without any problems.
