The link below shows the settings and readings for various stages of overclocking my Core i7 920. I am happy with all the overclocks except for the 3.96GHz as I feel the auto chosen CPU voltage could be harmful to the CPU, hence I took the readings but did not do a stress test. I lowered the voltage but got a blue screen after Windows load up screen. I would like some opinions regarding the CPU voltage and any other settings that could be cause for concern.
Thanks in advance

What are your other Bios settings?

Here's the guide i used.

http://www.tweaktown.com/news/...cpu_to_4ghz/index.html

Two things that really stick out:

1) QPI/VTT set at 1.5v is a pretty high, and not really necessary unless you want higher Uncore/NB frequency overclocks.

2) Using Memtest for testing memory overclocks doesn't mean the overclock is Windows stable, or Prime95 stable for that matter. Memtest should only be used if you are on the bleeding edge of your memory overclock settings.

Other than these two points, very good document for Core i7 overclocking, especially for Gigabyte boards.

Not yet I've been messing around with me other toy E8400....I will let you know how I get on when I get time to have a bash.

I have a 3842A at 215x19 with bios set Vcore=1.34, altho cpuz reads 1.296 under P95 full load. QPI=1.32, CPU PLL 1.84. all others at defaults. hth.

i like your 3,6 setting, pretty much just a tiny bit over stock voltages for mem and cpu. i think it's the sweet spot for your chip. not too hot under load condition either. what type of cooler are you putting on the cpu?

I seem to be running stable at 3.6 (180 bclk) with voltages at default except vcore and qpi volts increased to the top of the "blue" region in the P6t bios, which is like 1.2275 for vcore and 1.25 something for QPI. These are much lower then your voltages although I'm getting about the same temperatures as you are anyway.

Nice results, NoM8's - and I love the table with all the settings. It's very clear. I like my Core i7 but there sure are a lot of knobs to tweak on the motherboard to mess with.

Good idea using the table to record your settings. I'll have to steal that one :D

Thanks for the compliments...I wish my overclocking abilities were as good as my table making abilities......lol

I have the Akasa Nero, might go for the Thermalright Ultra in the future, its supposed to be a little more efficient, but the Nero is doing just fine at the moment.

You have a 930mhz OC with a mild voltage increase and good temps, on air. I think your OC'ing skills are just fine.
