Which of these do the gurus here recommend for a rig mainly used for Internet surfing, some gaming and will be used to convert analog Sony 8mm video tapes to digital?
I'm running an HD5850 and understand that I'll need a video capture card to make the video tape conversion possible.
Any suggestions with regard to the capture device are welcome.

based on my newbish knowledge assuming price is no factor, the 860 has the edge due to HT and turbo mode feature, plus higher base speed...

but 920 is better if you have SLI or plan to overclock

i5 will be just fine for your needs. Save the money.
Edit: I would even consider going with a quad core AMD CPU for around $150.00.

Question of the day. What software do you use to convert your 8mm to digital?
Reason for asking: If the software is multithreaded, and how many cores can it take advantage of.
If it can use as many as can be thrown at it, i860 will beat it out. Also, consider any possibility of upgrading your conversion software to something that IS multithreaded or can utilize many cores. Like Handbrake, etc.
What do you currently use?

8mm video tapes == converting formats in a sub DVD movie resolution.
Throwing the "latest and greatest" for that purpose may be a waste of funds IMO.

Also...You guys are...trying to do it... wrong :p

With such an uber powerful graphics card, such us the HD5850, forget about the CPU and let the GPU do as much thinking as possible...

Which is kind of why I was asking which software he was "currently" using.
