Core i5 Release Date?

I was just wondering when the expected i5 release date was. I've seen various answers online, none of which were consistent.

I originally thought it was Q3 2009, but now I'm not so sure. I know Anandtech got their hands on an early sample of sorts, so I would imagine they're getting close to being released.
 
sometime in Q3 is best we know. Maybe as far as mid november, but its my opinion that they'll use their traditional launch date for clarkdale/arrandale.

What's the traditional launch date?
 
um...mid november. I think thats when kentsfield launched, I think they were a little late with yorkfield, 17th IIRC was launch day for bloomfield.
 
strangely, September is in Q3.
and anand had said that it hasn't been delayed due to the lack of competition, but that the micro-code and supporting hardware just isn't ready yet. And it was when he had the chips in hand, so Id consider it about as reliable as is possible.
On a separate but related note: I wonder if fab D1C is capable of doing all the chips they'll need for clarkdale/arrandale, or if it can supply those AND gulftown.

If they need just a few percent of total shipping volume in Q4 to be 32nm then D1C could handle it.

If they need 10% or more then I highly doubt D1C alone would be able to ramp and source that much that quickly. (and why would they try? if they really are after 10% volume to be 32nm in Q4 then they'd want a couple fabs doing it anyways)
 
from Anand's article on 32nm D1C and D1D will be 32nm at clarkdale's launch. Fab32 and 11X will come online for xeon and 32nm atom production and then sandy.

I'd be surprised if Intel doesn't qualify their high-volume basic x86 sku for production in any and all 32nm capable fabs, same with the xeons and atoms too now that I think about it.

Copy exact is supposed to minimize (among many things) the elevated cost structure that comes with test/verification of multi-fab sourced IC's; and the value in qual'ing your IC's for fabbing from multiple fabs (even if you aren't running >80% utilization) is that it reduces risk of supply disruption in the event of a yield excursion issue (organics in the water, etc) in any given fab.

But yeah, as to the spirit of the post (D1C and D1D both qual'ed for 32nm clarkdale CPU unit production, we don't know much about 45nm IGP/IMC/PCIe part yet I guess) that makes much much more sense, volumes will be low but two fabs brought online gives management the appropriate amount of risk mitigation for the time being.
 
oh, I didn't mean that each would be specific to those parts, just that they'd need the additional fabs for addition volume with new SKUs.
 
I'm pretty sure it's coming early september. Reliability of my sources? 80%, they ain't lieing, but Intel doesn't tell them everything either.

but i have a high feeling, CPU's wont start poping out on vendors websites, until november.
