I never thought anyone can beat anandtech to it, but bogus or not this website did, and a retailer even.

Here's the link to a reputable online retailer in Melbourne, Australia. Claiming "Core i5/P55/Socket 1156 is here!!!", in stock and ready to ship since 17 August 2009. Is this for real?

http://pcmaniacs.com.au/

Prices as follows:

Core i5 750 2.66Ghz Au$339
Core i7 860 2.8Ghz Au$449
Core i7 870 2.93Ghz Au$835

Go to the motherboards section and you'll find the whole Gigabyte P55 range on sale as well.

I can assure you that those are pre-order. It isn't unusual at all for dishonest websites to "forget" to put the fact that they are taking orders for products they don't have in stock.

Except as he said they are advertising "IN STOCK AND READY TO SHIP" - that's far more serious than "forgetting" to mention they didn't have any in stock.

myo apparently the cat is out of the proverbial bag on this one as Intel lost control over shops jumping the gun and selling i5's early.

Intel Looks Into Early Sales of Lynnfield Chips in Taiwan

Intel is looking into how the first versions of its Lynnfield processors ended up on sale in Taiwan several weeks before they were supposed to, preempting the company's plans to roll out the new chips.

Intel Core i5 Captured in the Wild

We are pretty sure you guys have heard about Intel's upcoming, but yet-to-be-launched Lynnfield processor that is being retailed as the Core i5 ... already. We picked up this one from Fry's online store Sunday night and had it here in Dallas, Texas this morning.

Seems odd to me that while Intel has little control over S1156 MB makers, they should have absolute control over S1156 CPU's. Either the CPU's are sold direct or through distributors and it would seem Intel would have ironclad agreements with all who distribute their CPU's.

Intel clearly would have needed to ship 1000's of S1156 CPU's to MB makers for product evaluation, but the CPU's we seem to be discussing are retail boxed units. A MB maker would not be seeing those, which implies distributor units.

Maybe in Asia a distributor just winks at the Intel contract?

I do understand that once a CPU leaves a distributor, Intel loses any control.

Dual core?
The Core iX branding is supposed to differentiate computer performance irrespective of cores. Where before we had MHz and GHz then EXXXX and QXXXX we now have Core iX + EXXXX. To add more old spin with new spin you will soon be able to buy a Core i3 Pentium G6950. That's a castrated Clarkdale if you were curious.

So if you weren't confused before, you will be now.
