Core i5 670 beats Core i7 975 Extreme Edition?

I was very surprised at that Overclock.

Lots of people have been saying having the memory controller and PCI-Express under the heatspreader would severely limit overclocks. (Compared to Bloomfield)

Or maybe there is something about LN2 that removes any chip-specific bottleneck that would normally occur under air cooled conditions?

are you asking why 670 was able to get higher clockspeed? I would guess because it has less things to go wrong with (like hyperthreading) or maybe because it's a more mature silicon process

Well that and originally I was thinking Super Pi was a multi-threaded program (therefore possibly having impact on the reduced L3 cache of the Core i5 vs the Core i7 at high clock speeds). But It looks like I was getting that mixed up with Orthos.

I remember back when Conroe was first introduced lots of people were using Super Pi as "The Benchmark". I think the best score back then was slightly under 10 seconds with exotic cooling.

32nm vs bloomfields 45nm, nuff said.

😀

I used to remember when this "Super Pi" was such a big deal. Haha, I am still learning the significance of the various benchmarks.
Its not so much that, as, its a newer processor, so it overclocks more. That SOP for processors, unless they are a complete failure.

However, also, everybody here knows that superpi is just single core, and clock and cache.
