Any performance comparisions between the two? If hyperthreading counteracts the long pipeline and makes it perform like say... two virtual 1.6ghz pentiums, how does that compare to two actual 1.6ghz pentiums?

Hyperthreading general gives about a 15-20% performance boost, while a true second core gives around an 80% performance boost on average. Hyperthreading doesn't really counteract the long pipeline, just helps make it a little less inefficient. You can't compare the clock speed of a prescott with HT to a core duo, because they aren't the same architecture. My pentium-M @2.4ghz was able to keep up with my prescott @3.82ghz in many things, so a core duo at the same speed, running SMP aware apps, would have no trouble outperforming a prescott with HT. If you are running a single non-SMP aware program, neither hyperthreading or a second core is going to give you any big advantage.
