Core Duo T5500 Upgrade

Yes, you would see a performance increase since the Core 2 Duo processors are faster. As for if you can upgrade to the Core 2 Duo: as long as you have the right BIOS for the computer, you should be fine since other companies are selling the S96J with Core 2 Duo processors.

actually i would check into it first. those other companies could be using a different motherboard. from what i understand, you can only replace a core solo, core duo, or core 2 duo with a core 2 duo chip

Oh yes no doubt ! The T7200 will be more of an oomph than the T5500 and not just for the Clock bump either....

As for having the ability to upgrade, you have a X1600 that means your board is based of the intel 945PM chipset, and that supports the whole Yonah and Merom range (Celeron M 4xx, Core Solo, Core Duo, Core 2 Duo)

Go for it! If anything your battery life should increase and the power management will be better...
