hey guys, i'm new here... so hi!

anyway, i just wanted to ask a question about intel's core duo and core duo 2 processors. what's the difference between a 1.83 ghz core duo 2 and a 2.33 ghz core duo? i know that one opperates faster than the other, but why would i want to choose the core duo over the 2? or should i choose the 2? i'm just very confused especially cuz dell wants $320 more for a 2.33 core duo instead of the base 1.83 duo 2 for one of it's inspiron e1705 laptops. any help or insight is appreciated!

The Core 2 Duo at 1.83GHz is much faster than the Core Duo at 2.33GHz.

The Core 2 Duo is an entirely new architecture and is the fastest thing available right now.

I don't know that I'd say "much faster". Depending on the app, the Core 2 Duo will be about 20% faster at the same clock speed. A 1.86 Core 2 Duo is equal to maybe 2.23 ghz Core Duo. So, actually, the 2.33 ghz Core Duo would be a tad bit faster. Whether or not it's worth $320 more is up to you, but I'd go with the Core 2 Duo myself.
