Core Duo Macbook worth it?

I found a Macbook for $300 bucks. It's a Core Duo, 512 and 60 GB hard drive. I'm thinking about getting it and using it as a Windows XP machine to go along with my 1.83 GHz Core 2 Duo Macbook.

The only issue is the DVD drive doesn't work but I have a USB DVD drive I could use to install a OS.

I also have 2x512 ram.

The price is $300.

You cannot install Windows off a USB optical drive. No, I do not know why, but it was a major headache for me when I wanted to put Windows on my MacBook Pro, which has, to date, killed two optical drives.

He swears up and down that he is 100% positive that a USB external cannot be used.

The MacBook Air Superdrive has a chip in it that makes it so that it will only work on the MacBook Air.

not unless you use a $10 part, which makes the mba superdrive useful for any laptop! 😛

actually, im not even sure if a mac can boot off an external optical drive...good question though.
