Take a look here and click on "View processor number? details"

On the list of processors, intel lists the T2700 under Viiv and under Centrino Core Duo. Does this mean there are two versions of the T2700. Or does it simply mean that if you get a laptop that has the Viiv logo, you get Centrino Core Duo T2700 with Viiv.

I guess maybe I just dont understand Viiv. Is Viiv a feature that is specific or rather built into a processor (like HT) or is it simply a feature that requires multiple other parts to be Viiv compatible?

What is Viiv?

Viiv is just Intel marketing for a digital media platform. To be Viiv compatible, it must meet certain CPU, video, networking, etc. requirements. Viiv is to digital media as Centrino is to laptops, both names are just marketing.

Both T2700 CPUs would be the same. There's several articles out there that describe Viiv, but here's one that gives an overview: Viiv

Viiv and Centrino Duo are platforms. The processor is one component of that platform. All those notes are for is to provide a way for Intel's marketing department to remind you that those processors can be used in those platforms.

A system can't be qualified as both Centrino Duo and Viiv, according to Intel, even if it has the parts to meet the requirements of both.

More on platforms.
