Have a 1.73Ghz Pentium M Dothan core, Intel 915 chipset in my HP DV1000.

Is it possible that I can upgrade it to a Core Duo at least? I wanna go to Vista on this lappy (I love Vista!) and would like a dual-core to compliment it.

I understand that on Intel's website that the Core Duo uses a 945 chipset, but I'm hoping there's a glisen of hope out there.

No.

Only mobile 945 and 965 (for 800MHz FSB C2D) series chipsets. The Core Duo is not pin compatible with the socket used on the 915 chipset.

You can never overclock the laptop unless you do the pin-mod technique frequently used on 915 chipset. Replacing it with something faster in the same series is possible.
