core colors what the heck?????

I've been reading about some duron cpu's.... and have some comments to some Blue cores. ands some like redish blue cores.... what is the difference?
that's my question of the day.

There was some speculation a while back about the core color representing the fab the chip was produced at. I believe the rumor was that the "blue" Durons were produced with copper interconnects. AFAIK, there has yet to be any proof of this, but some sites sold pre-tested configurations of blue cores guaranteed to 1100 MHz claiming them to be "copper core" CPUs.

my understanding was that no durons used copper interconnects. i know that tbirds 1gig and over use copper, and that the tbirds up to 1gig used aluminum. the copper comes from the dresden fabrication plant and the aluminum chips come from th austin, tx plant. i don't know about durons though.

I've had both a Duron 600MHz and a Duron 800MHz.. The 600MHz's core was pinkish in direct light, and copperish when I looked at it sideways.. The 800MHz's core was (metallic) purple in the light and green sideways.

All Durons come from Austin using the aluminum. There are no copper Durons.

The "blue" ones are a result of either a different polish, or the polishing getting discoloured.

I just got a new duron 600 and it has a blue ting to it.........
