my motherboard is intel 975xbx2, CPU intel core 2 extreme 2.9ghz, Nvidia 8800gtx

the problem is I can't not bring down the temperature of my CPU. I even bought artic silver 5 for the heatsink...I cleaned the heatsink and cpu...tried a couple times with varied amount each time...it never helped or not noticeable.

the 2 cores stays at 45-57 degrees on idle but that is with the side case cover open...if I close that, the CPU temp kicks up to about 57 degrees. The reading is from speedfan.

another problem is that my 8800gtx idles at 76/77 degrees....seems way too hot for it to be doing nothing.

all this normally wouldn't be a problem but when I load a game or something else, the cpu fan goes nuts and very loud.

what case do you have? it sounds like you do not have adequate airflow in your case. Also, are you using the stock cooler? you might want to try an aftermarket HSF if you want great temps.

Same with the things PCTC2 mentioned, seems like a case flow problem to me, by the way, do you OC' since you got the extreme?

stock is good, provided you have good case flow, i am using stock for Q6600.

for your video card, get a 12cm fan and blow directly at it, and get a pci slot blower to exhaust the heat out.
