Core 2 Extreme QX6700 Overclock Question

I am running a Core 2 Extreme on a ASUS P5W DH, and I am running into a problem when trying to increase the multiplier beyond 10. In the BIOS, the multiplier display for the proc. says 6-10, which is exactly what you are allowed to select, but the C2E should be unlocked. I have been combing over boards to try and see if I am missing a setting somewhere, but can't find anything helpful to me. Although I am not a hardcore overclocker, I would like to be able to set-up my overclock for myself, without having to rely on the AI overclock. If anyone has run into this, and has a solution, that would be great. Thanks.

Tegeril, did you buy an OEM processor? I am currently on hold with the company I bought mine from, but I am wondering if some of, if not all the OEM processors are multiplier limited, since most OEM's wouldn't be overclocking.

Well, forget that then. I was given a return authorization for the processor. Since my BIOS is showing the processor as having a multiplier range of 6-10, they are figuring the processor is defective. I am not sure if I am going to take them up on it though, I am happy with the current performance, and short of a more impressive 3DMark score, I don't think I am going to get much more usable performance out of it.

I honestly think it might just be the board. The bios just before the most recent (1707) was the first that had information for the quad core processors. It's entirely possible that we just need to wait for an updated bios.

That said, I agree, I'm satisfied with 3ghz 😉

Just FYI, according to the ASUS boards, this problem is a bug with the current BIOS version, same as problems having quad-core processors reading different overclocks on different cores. I am hoping for a fix with next BIOS update, which is currently in beta.
