Core 2 Duo notebooks

Considering that Core Duo is relatively young when compared to other processors and lots of Pentium M notebooks are still being sold today, how long would it take before Core 2 Duo notebooks become mainstream?

When would the first Core 2 Duo notebooks start surfacing the market? Any idea about the initial pricing of Core 2 Duo based notebooks?

Core 2 Duo notebooks don't have to wait for Santa Rosa (it will work on existing mainboards). You can probably expect them to arrive in earnest as of September or October.

He asked when they would become "mainstream." In August when Merom launches, they will be the high end and Core Duo will be even more "mainstream" than it is now. Manufacturers probably won't outright replace Yonah for at least several months after the August launch, maybe into Q107. When Santa Rosa launches (April maybe), Merom+Napa will definitely be in the bargain bin.

You're more or less right, although I think some of the slower parts will make their way into more mainstream systems relatively quickly. I wouldn't expect the cheapest notebooks to use them until late this year, though.
