Well I've finally gotten the funds to build my C2D system and trash this 6 year old Dell Optiplex but I've been waiting for the nForce 500 chipset motherboards before buying.

Is it worth the wait for the nForce 500 chipset boards? Should I go ahead and get a Intel P965/975X motherboard? If I should get a P965/975X motherboard which one would be the best to get?

Also I'd initially planned on Corsair XMS2 DDR 800 2GB ram but will I see a huge performance difference between DDR2 675 ram? If it matters this PC will be for Video Editing, 3DS Work, and gaming.

If you overclock get DDR2-800 memory that way you can push the fsb up and keep the memory sitting pretty so to speak.

For motherboards I'd recommend the Asus P5B Deluxe (or non deluxe) because they seem to be more stable than the Gigabyte boards which are the main competitors.

It would be good if you gave us a price range.

If you're not going to overclock i'd get 675 ram. If you plan on overclocking i'd get 800mhz.

I'm going with

e6300
Gigabyte DS3
Corsair twinx2048 800mhz

It's like $570 shipped @ zipzoomfly + there's a $40 rebate on the memory, so it's really like $530.

Well all I need now is a motherboard - I plan on overclocking and gaming.

SLI really isnt that big of a deal to me. I proboly wont go SLI for awhile, if ever. One thing I do need is 3 PCI Slots and 2 Ethernet ports.

So can anyone suggest a good motherboard for me? I want an ASUS board. I'm inbetween the P5W, P5B, or waiting for the nForce 570 Chipsets.

Which would be the best for OC'ing?

well at this point conroe motherboards are available but really I think there should be alot more out at this time it's been awile since conroe came out and than they basically buttered us all up thinking when conroe came out we could get it but it was hard to get conroe processors and expensive. also the availabilty of motherboards isn't enough there is barely anything to pick from and most of them are overpriced as far as finding a motherboard I want about 150 with good overclocking features forget about it for now.

If your not going to oc Intel has a nice stable board also Abit has a board out and are relasing two more that I know of

sorry to say but I really am not impressed with "AnandTechs Conroe Buying Guide" I suggest not listening to it. unless you want a review of the motherboards
