I'm hoping to find something that will work with my current socket 478 P4 and will work with core duo in the future.

A motherboard that says it supports socket T or LGA 775 and also says it supports pentium 4.. im guessing that means the socket 775 p4?... and that I'm out of luck with my current processor.

I appreciate it.

Yep T is 775. There are no Core2 chips in 478 format. 478 has pretty much been dead for a while.

But 775 chips are cheap now. So get a gigabyte S3 or a Asrock board and any 775 chip.
S3 cost more but has more options then the Asrock. Asrock is dirt cheap 775 board that supports Core2.

Socket T = LGA775
Same thing, but most people refer to it as Socket 775.

However, not all 775 motherboards support Conroe. Only the newer ones (less than three months old).
