Now, if it'll only show up anywhere near the rumored/roadmapped $133 price near the rumored date of 5/11... I'd be in awe.

First step for me would be a 1333FSB BSEL mod. :D

In the meantime, the $180 Xeon E3110 from Tankguys sounds kind of juicy.

I noticed they had the same problem I do, they couldn;t get over 450 mhz on the FSB.

The E7300 is my pick of the litter. Same CPU, 10x multiplier. Not much $ headroom between that and the $189 E8400, so I'm guessing we'll see these processors with street prices of $120 for the E7300 and $150ish for the E7400 once the initial feeding frenzy is over. You may even have a period where the E7300 is selling for more than the E8400!

Interesting power usage on their graph. Confirms what I've seen in some, but not others -- a Phenom 9850 uses about 25% more power at load than a Q6600. But lately I've been seeing power usages where the Phenom is at the same level as a Q6600. Guess it all depends on the apps you run re: which CPU is going to draw the least power at load.

Also, check out their overclocking performance graph. Granted, it's only one app -- but check out the monstrous gains a 10% OC (2.8 ghz?) 9850 posts vs stock. The 45nm Phenoms may be the pleasant surprise we're all hoping for after all.

Im guessing its northbridge voltage requirement right now as of this moment. He left a lot of things on auto, which is not the way to compare platforms. Because auto changes to meet demand.

Also please dont think the voltages for the 3.8ghz is a "safe voltage". And im pretty much grabbing a E7300 when these suckers come out, and hacking the ihs off.

I was going to post the review today! Oh well.

I agree with aigomorla. Maybe if Nathan changed a few BIOS settings he'll be able to break that 450mhz barrier. Plus, once the CPU is released to the public, I' think it should be able to clock higher than 3.8Ghz thanks to a better BIOS.

There shouldn't be much difference between the E7200 and the E8400 except for the E8400 having more cache and a lower multiplier.

If you consider stock speeds, the e7x00 series look like they make better use of their 3MB cache than the e6x50 series do with 4MB. In the first benchie you have a 5% slower clockspeed only resulting in a 2.2% reduction in result which means that these chips operate either with more work/cycle or make more efficient use of their cache.

Sign me up for an e7300, will make a fine upgrade from my e6400@3GHz. With cooler temps and lower power consumption I'll be set until sometime next year when Nehalem comes down to earth.

E7xx is a losing proposition. Multi's are TOO LOW. Jeez, where's the OC. Sweet spot is E5200 or E8400/E8500/E8600. Personally Ima get me an E5200 then later get an E8600 when prices drop and E8400 is phased out. I got time.

Also, I have an E8400 in my drawer, I keep it there.

Way to resurrect a dead thread. And that article is from November, 2007. Everything's changed in the past 9 months. =.="
