Core 2 Duo E6600 only shows up as one core

The Intel core 2 duo e6600, as most of you know, is a dual core cpu. But under HWmonitor and Coretemp, only 1 core is there. I recently changed the Q6600 in tere for this E6600 and I may or may not have damaged the motherboard. Could it be a bent motherboard pin problem?

edit: nvm reseated the cpu and all is good.

Before you move on toward your current assessment of "the possible," check your system BIOS to determine if only one core is enabled. I think I've seen this feature in BIOS's for both ASUS and Gigabyte mobos, and the BIOS defaults initially to a single core enabled. If you reset the BIOS (which you well should have) as part of your processor swap, this could be the minor detail you overlooked.

I did not know you could even improperly seat a cpu and still have it function.

you can't. first time you boot up after installing a cpu of a different core size, i've always had it report as a single core. windows "installs drivers successfully" and tells you to reboot. then it displays all functional cores.
