I have bought (but not built) the following cpu/mobo/ddr2, and when I picked up the DDR2, the guy says I should buy the OCZ DDR2 6400 rev2 e 4-4-4-15 instead, because the rev1 is not compatible with the e6300. Is he just trying to squeeze some more $$$ out of me? is the rev1 compatible?

Sounds like a load of BS to me..the memory controller isn't on the CPU..the cpu doesn't have anything to do with the memory compatibility.
