I've got corsair value select pc2-4200 with micron d9 chips, small ones, not the fattys. Could I oc these to any extent?

according to http://ramlist.ath.cx/ddr2/ and corsair's forum the sticks you have do not have D9GMH and instead use Micron D9BQM, Micron D9CHM, Micron D9DQM, or samsung GCD5

None of these will overclock much at all.

I suggest you try ;)

Then report back.

I never really understand why people post asking how well their RAM will OC.
It makes sense to ask if you are planning to buy, but if you already own it, the only way to know is to try :)

Yoxxy,

Sorry about the lack of stickies for your guides.

I don't see this thread getting stickied because it porovides too much commerical counter-current. As did your mobo guide.

For every PM we send a mod to sticky your guide, an AT advertiser not listed in your thread or not listed favorably in your thread is PM'ing and requesting to have it NOT stickied.

Same as your mobo thread. You need to have threads dedicated by AT's advertising revenue streams. One thread for each supplier. See how the mods manage the mobo stickies for a reference. You don't get stickies to compare and contrast suppliers, only when you keep it in the family.

Follow the money and youir stickies will come. Good luck, and thanks for this quite helpful memory thread. I really benefited from your C2D mobo thread too, which notably was never stickied.

I disagree; don't bow to the marketing strategy and make induvidual threads, keep up your current excellent method. It's better for us consumers so if we have to suffer it not being stickied and occasionally bumping it, it's better for all of us. Sure, memory suppliers wouldn't like us to be told there's actually a better deal at that company over there, but to hell with them, I say. We should be able to provide unbiased advice for each other based on our experiences and research.

So what I'll do is come here 2x a day and bump it. How's about that? :p

I kind of agree on the mods not stickying it. They need to make money as well so I am not really worried. Got all the pictures of the memtest up, now I just need to write a summary tomorrow at work.

I suppose this is relevant here so I'll ask. Is it common or perhaps expected sometimes for memory to become unstable randomly when ran at a speed that was found stable before?

My Crucial was running DDR2-1000 @ 5-4-4-8 stable with 2.4v and then unexpectedly decided to become unstable at any timings and DDR2-1000 giving bsods, crash on windows startup etc. Went to DDR2-800 3-3-3-4 and it's stable again at 2.3v. No clue why.

edit: it fixed itself somehow *shrug*

I think my P5B-D is starting to act up, which is likely what happened with your RAM.

I suddenly am no longer stable @ my 8+ hrs. Orthos blend settings?

I dunno wtf is going on...

My RAM is still fine though.

A lot of the D9GKX IC's are gone as well. Most sticks are using D9GMH. If you want to pick up some D9GKX stuff, youd better act now, or buy my sticks in FS/FT :).

OCZ TI = D9GMH Now, Supertalent 4-4-3-8 = D9GMH Now as well.

It's christmas buying time and the prices aren't going to get any lower. I ordered my Crucial 10th Anniversary last week for fear of it going out of stock like it has on the US site and price rises. I've got it here until the rest of my parts arrive ;).

Looking for reviews via google I seem to find more posts in forums like "Hey where did all the Crucial 10th anniversary go? :(" and "Crucial 10th not on newegg any more". Oh I feel special now :D. Big thanks to n7 ;).

cmdrdredd I notice you too have the sticks. Did they boot for you straight away at 2.1v? And have you had any issues with them?

When I booted I was running previous memory at 2.1v so they booted fine. When I flash CMOS I have to only use 1 stick in order to boot and change voltage back to something over 2.0. Other than that, no issues, although I can't get DDR2-1000 at 4-4-4-x, but seeing as these are only rated at 667 I can live with 5-4-4-8

Most of the time one stick will boot no matter how high the voltages are. Just keep trying and after enough times one stick will boot at least enough so you can change it.

For the record I grabbed the Buffalo Firestix for my build and they dropped down to 4/4/4/12 at 2.1v with no issue. Also booted right up on my DS3. So I've got no complaints with them.

cmdrdredd, yoxxy: thanks for the advice.

fighttest: I see yours started straight away at 2.1, that's reassuring!

Well, kind of. They boot/POSTed fine off the bat but at below stock settings. So they were running at like 533 or 667 at lower timings and had to be configured manually. I'm pretty sure all memory does this but I don't want to give the impression that they powered on for the first time at 4/4/4/12 @2.1v.
