How comparable is Pentium D 3.6 (dual Core) vs. the Core 2 Duo 2.4. Which is better?

The slowest Core 2 Duo is faster than the fastest Pentium D.

Depending on what you are doing a C2D 2.4 will perform like a 4.4 - 5.0Ghz Pentium D

Put that pipe down...

Sorry, but Tom's didn't have the "slowest" Core 2...
But this is close

The Core 2 6300 does beat the EX 965 in some cases.

The Core 2 6300 does beat all the Pentium D 960 and below.

So I dont know what you are smoking.

So, Core 2 Duo is like a dual proc.

So a Pentium D 3.6 Dual Proc System will beat a core 2 Duo single proc (any speed) easily.
right?

FYI, there is a CPU tab at the top of this page with many interesting articles comparing processors.

PDs and C2Ds are both dual-core processors.
Whether two PDs will beat one C2D depends on the application and stuff, it might work better for media encoding but not at all for games or other single-threaded things. It's not a fair comparision either, since you'd have to have a special mobo with two sockets, etc.

Aflac made a blanket statement that just wasn't true. His/Her statement was...
"The SLOWEST Core 2 Duo IS FASTER than the FASTEST Pentium D."
Blanket statements should be BANNED from this forum.

Yeah, check the other benchmarks, the c2d smashes the PD in quite a few of them.

The Core 2 Duo is a dual core processor just like the Pentium D but based on a different architecture.

A single core Core 2 would have been named a Core 2 Solo, which doesnt exist (yet)...
