Too cool. A cordless trackball with programmable buttons and it's only ten smackers. They still have the 30ft 12AWG wire for 2.99 too. Just received the 8 rolls I ordered last week. I'll have to keep an eye on that website.

I'm not sure I understand--what is the benefit of a cordless trackball? A cordless mounse I can understand, but doesn't the trackball "base" pretty much just sit there?

Click on the link and take a look. It's more like a remote control with a trackball built in. Would be real handy for office presentations.

uh... I had bought those exact trackballs at b&m officemax for $2.00 around a month ago.

they work great (in line of sight only though) and I use it to adjust my aiw Radeon TV volume remotely.

Top buttons are impossible to use while scrolling, but the sucker has buttons on the bottom to make scroll/clicking easier.

Still a good buy even at $10.00 to use as remote.

Great find. I have a wireless keyboard and the built in pointer sucks!

This will be better!

This deal is old old news. RecotonDirect has been selling them
for that price for months...

They're not bad, with the caveot that there is no support for
NT/Win2000. (Support under WinMe probably only if Win98 drivers
work under Me).

Best deals on RecotonDirect right now, I think, are the 30' of
12 gauge speaker wire for $2.99 and the Discwasher brand noise
reduction headphones for $27.99. I have the NR headphones, and
they work really well in environments where continual/white noise
is an issue. For example, using these headphones I can comfortably
listen to a DVD on my laptop in a plane. Previously, I'd pump the
volume up to "11" and still had to push those buds HARD into
my ears to hear wassup. The NR headphones also work really well
if you're trying to listen to a walkman while mowing the yard or
plowing snow or whatever. They are NOT as good as the professional
Bose NR headphones. But then, they cost $27.99 delivered, not
$1000.

the trackball is held like a remote control and the connection is serial connection to the computer. It's got programmable short cut keys on the remote (alot of short cut can be had).

Edgy (or anyone), would it be possible to set this up to control a media player like WinAmp? After looking at the various MP3 players on the market, I realized that using a 2nd computer in my living room would give me by far the greatest flexibility.

If you didn't know, everything in WinAmp can be mapped to keyboard keys.

DO NOT BUY THIS !!!!!!!

THIS THING SUCKS!!!!

I HAVE IT.
The resolution feels like 100 dpi - the mouse is jumpy, and the buttons underneath the thing are pretty much falling out. The ball is plastic, not subberized as in most mouse/trackball products.

I got this thing for free after a rebate a while ago, and still hate it.
You've been warned.

I agree. The scrolling is not as smooth as regular mouse, the scroll speed is not adjustable but I think is usable, the ball IS plastic, but my buttons are NOT falling off.

If you buy this product expecting to replace the mouse/trackball you have on your system, you WILL be disappointed.

Buy this product if you just want to make simple mouse commands remotely (like watching TV/changing channel, music selection/adjust volume, etc).

It is NOT a full time pointer replacement, but rather a very useful remote and THAT'S all.

Regarding the music controls, if winamp controls can be shortcut-ed or keyboard mapped, I don't see why it wouldn't work with this remote. I don't have any winamp things mapped on mine, but if you want to make sure, I can go home later (about 10:00 pm) and try it out and tell you for sure.
