cordless tool leapfrog: dewalt back in the lead

Just learned about the new dewalt stuff, they had to have an answer to Milwaukee gen 2, as that's how the game goes (though it does seem to be just those 2 companies in the race right now).
The new drill is the DCD996. It has the regular base mounted 3 lumen LED that the 995 has, but is has another brighter setting, as well as a worklight setting that will stay on for 20 minutes before automatically shutting off, but its 60 LUMENS! Also, even though on paper the power numbers don't look quite as impressive, in all reviews it annihilates the Milwaukee 2704 for power and runtime. The 2704 is an amazing drill, rated at 1200 inch-pounds.
Other new stuff is their 'flexvolt' battery system, where the battery switches from 20vmax to 60vmax depending on the tool. They have a 60v 7.25" skill saw, and a 60v sawzall that I'd live to have. They're making 6 and 9ah batteries now too.
I'll be replacing one of my 995s with a 996 real soon because I can't help myself, I'll post something about it.
I highly recommend you fellas google some 996 reviews.
Man I love tools.

I got the DCD995/DCF886 combo with 2x 5.0Ah batteries recently, I think they were on discount because the new models have just arrived. Works for me, I don't need the new lighting features on the hammerdrill, nor the speed settings on the impact.

I love when new tools come out, so the older tools get cheaper.

Meh. Buy Festool and quit fooling around.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

It was bad enough when I bought a Fein oscillating tool and put down 3 bills. Then I saw the Festool equivalent was over $600. They are nice tool and made in Germany but I cant say I could justify the cost...

Completely different markets. In construction, the festool cordless drill would have so many circles worked around it you could use the number of those circles as a new type of bitcoin mining limiter.

Also, agreed 96Firebird 🙂 Finding cheap batteries are like Christmas morning. But I've often thought about modifying the led to stay on longer because of wiring in dark attics or under buildings, now I don't have to.
