Cordless optical Logitech mouse problems

I just bought the cordless, optical mouse from Logitech. It's nice except for one really annoying thing: if I stop using the mouse for more than 10 seconds, it seems to lose its connection to the receiver, and I have to press the Connect button again. When the connection is working, the mouse is blinking all the time (2-3 times a second), which I guess is how it probes for movement. But after the 10 seconds, the blinking just stops, and it won't start again before I've pressed Connect. I can't believe it's supposed to work like this!?! I'm using Win2k with SP2, and I got the latest MouseWare drivers from Logitech's website 10 minutes ago. I don't know if it's important, but I'm using the PS/2 plug to connect the receiver to my computer. Please help! This thingy cost a fortune, but I'm not going to use it if this goes on

I m using the same mouse over USB and it works like a charm.
Can you check the battery status when you open the mouseware utilities? If not the mouse is not correctly recognized.
Try switching to USB.

The battery status is fine. The problem was, even though my other Logitech Optical works fine on my desk, the cordless one doesn't seem to be very fond of black surfaces. I solved the problem by using a sheet of paper as mouse pad. I like the mouse a lot better now, but the sample rate doesn't impress me at all. Maybe I'll change to USB after all.
