Cordless mouse choices

I don't really need a fancy cordless mouse. I just want something so that when I watch movies on my TV in the other room, I can still control the volume, start/stop, etc. Thus, even though the logitech mx700 looks appealing, the price is a little steep for what I want it to do. I'm perfectly happy with my MS intellimouse optical, so is there some cheap, optical mouse I can get to supplement it when I watch movies? I'm especially concerned about battery consumption. How do I know if a cordless mouse can take rechargeable batteries. For that matter, how do I know if anything can take rechargeable batteries?

Whew, sorry for the long and involved question. Again, price over function. Just need a cordless mouse that doesn't eat batteries or accepts rechargeables. TIA :)

Any reason that you're looking for an optical mouse? The opticals are the ones that eat a lot of battery power (and, yes, they take rechargeables).

A mouse is a mouse. Whatever is comfortable in your hard should do.

For cheap, I'd suggest one of the older cordless models with a ball in it. Maybe go for used/refurbished.

Actually since you're talking about having a mouse in a room where there is no computer (implies no mousepad) you might want to try a cheap optical cordless mouse. I only have cordless mice in my apartment (all logitechs) and I bought a random no-name optical for one of my friends .... it worked SO well in my living room 'cuz I could use it on the couch, the table ... whatever. FYI it was about 20 bucks from OfficeMax a few weeks ago ... as usual check the Hot Deals forum. But I would really recommend an optical if its going to be used in an HTPC setup.

Thanks lukatmyshu,

Yeah, I figured that might be the best way to go. There's a great-looking mouse made by A4 Tech which is optical, cordless and rechargeable (either usb or nokia recharger!). It is 800dpi and says it has a 2m RF transmitter range. It's $28 shipped at newegg, so I might try it out. Anyone have any experience with A4 Tech? In particular this mouse?

It's even in the shape of my MS intellimouse optical :)
