cordless drill sets....

so, i have this craftsman 18.x volt drill set - actually my second.. i've had problems with either the batteries or the chargers on both sets.

what's the best way to keep the batteries/chargers from failing?

should I not charge the battery until I'm ready to use it? or keep the batt in the charger all the time until I'm ready to use it?

keeping it in the charger is probably going to cook the batteries. but if you keep them out, murphy always says that you will forget to charge them before you need them. it depends on how much you are willing to spend on replacement batteries every X months.

if you use them on a regular basis, you can just charge them after you use them.

The charger should be a smart charger, and so it should charge the batteries in an optimal way. Then again "optimal" may be whatever gets you to buy the most batteries
