I am looking to buy a corded string trimmer.

don't try to convince me on cordless or gas. I have had all of them with varying sizes of land. I have plenty of outlets and a very long cord on my 1/4 acre. I dont need more chargers and batteries to store/take care of.

looking for recomendations. I currenly have a B&D cordless battery mower with lead acid battery and the rest of my yard stuff is human powered. may pick up a blower as well.

thanks nut.

i know, i should buy an echo like my dad has, I love that thing.

but... i have 1/4 acre, not 6 and i am out of the country 6 months out of the year and need it to be easy for the lady to use/light weight and 2 cycle would just confuse the hell out of her. Plus i dont have any reason to have a full gas can at home now, and to have one for just a string trimmer would be a bit stupid.

the mower is actually quite good. Its no ExMark zero turn with a 23hp kow like i used to run, but it does the job.

I have less than a quarter acre and still bought an echo 😛

But you are right, I don't expect my wife to go mow the lawn. If I was gone for 6 mo I'd probably hire a gardener or pay a friend or something. Hell, even my dad could do it and he'll be pushing 80 soon.

Does Ryobi still make an electric one with a top-mounted motor? My parents had/have one and the balance was excellent.

EDIT: Like this http://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-7-...rimmer-RY41131/203080248?N=5yc1vZbx8iZ1z0zy82

We have a Toro that was obtained from ACE 5 years ago.

Works great from trimming after the mower is done.

Use it with a pair of 100' outdoor extension cords.

Wish I could recommend a corded one, but I finally caved in and got rid of my electric corded and got a TroyBilt gas. The electric had zero power - it would take 45 minutes to edge my old house, and it was a 1500sq ft house (lot size, maybe 7000 sq ft?). I can run through the new house (3000 sq ft, 9000 lot size) in under 15, easy.

Granted, the corded electric one wasn't your top of the line, but neither was the gas. It's just been far more convenient having the gas trimmer.

Cordless electric is probably the easiest to use, with the obvious compromises.

For corded electric, I don't know how substantial the differences would be. My other Ryobi stuff has been good (though the cordless trimmer needed a bigger battery to be useful), so I think that corded electric posted above would be fine.

Yea, I got the same one, really decent power for an electric, big improvement over the Weedeater brand I had before it. I also have a B+D cordless, set came with 2 20V lithium batt's and a blower for $109, works OK but nowhere the power of a corded model, I use it mainly where it's difficult to reach with a cord.

I have a B&D 36V lithium trimmer with a spare battery. I have no complaints about it. It works pretty darn well. It has an adjustable power level so you can use less power for light duty, and turn it up full for thick stuff.

They can vary quite a bit in performance, the Toro I have has almost as much punch as a small gas model but the Weedeater brand it replaced was as wimpy as hell, the only problem with the Tore is the cutting blade came off (the little metal piece that trims the line when you "tap-n-go"), it still works fine otherwise, IIRC I got it at ACE on sale@26.99
