CORD CUTTERS: What's the best solution for me?

(Not sure if this is belongs in HTPC or Networking or Offtopic)

Once I move, I intend to cut the cord and go internet only.

I will have 3-4 non-smart HDTVs across many rooms / 2 floors. What's the best way to enjoy content?

Setup

1. Build a HTPC ($300-400 ea) per each HDTV- that seems highly impractical, also none of the content/data is centralized for watching downloaded content.

2. Buy one laptop and it'll serve as the mobile 'host'. Either hook that up to each TVs per use or buy ChromeCast for each TVs (only $30 ea).

3. ????? Is there a better option? Some sort of a home server route? But how is that better than 2?

Content

* Buy one OTA antenna for the living room TV. So we can have access to broadcast channels.

* Netflix covers any series. Movies I can just buy al la carte on Amazon or something.

* Anything else?

A single htpc with the ability to broadcast ota over dlna (card input), then a dlna player(ps3) fOr each tv? Centralized content, significantly less than one htpc per tv.

I bought an antenna for each of our TV's, and from there I simply download anything I want to watch on my desktop, and then stream it using my PS3 to my TV.

Piece of Cake. I don't even require streaming services like Netflix / Hulu. I'm tired of monthly costs in general.

Can you be more specific on what you want to watch on the TVs? For instance, under Setup you mention having a centralized location for storing "downloaded" content but under Content all you talk about is having an OTA antenna for one TV and using streaming services. For instance, do you want to record OTA programs?

That being said, after having a full computer attached to a TV (in my case, a Mac Mini), I find it very limiting when I have to go back to a streaming device like a Roku. If a computer is not in the cards I would look at attaching a ChromeBox to each TV.

single htpc where you store / download everything

then dlna to every tv .. done.

1. What exactly is DLNA referring to- ChromeCast?

2. A single HTPC means I have to walk to where the HTPC is everytime I want to pause videos or watch different things? That seems awfully impractical.

Unless you mean one HTPC = one lap top.

You can probably do the HTPC thing if you're in America since you people actually have real, functional on demand services.

One of the big telecom companies in Canada have something similar to what you have in mind in a pre-packaged format... Except it costs essentially the same as cable month by month:

I'm sticking to cable because I like the live, channel surfing part of the television experience.

this might sound controversial. install adblock plus and use 3 sites that I have bookmarked. free movies and tv series. pm for further info if interested. I've already got 6 houses fully cord cutted and all free.
