To my knowledge, game "requirements" and "recommended" systems are based on systems of the previous couple of generations. Usually following Netburst speeds.

That Core 2 Duo will run them very smoothly, and it will be GPU dependant for a while, maybe even RAM/HD dependant depending on the specifications of your machine.

Yes, the 2.66ghz is based off of pentium-4 speeds, since core 2 duo, and A64/X2 are much more efficient, they are more than enough.

thats a releif thanks guys. thats why in my previous thread i was going agianst the guys and heading for pentium D because of the 3.0GHz

The 2 processors you mentioned are quite different in price. The X2 3800+ is now around $160, while the E6400s will probably be around $240+ when tghey become available. The E6400 is the faster processor, but the X3 3800+ is still fast, and you can apply the the money you save into getting a faster video card, which is more important for games.

If you're not overclocking, you can get a Socket AM2 motherboard for $60 (it even has some overclocking ability):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813135019

so the total price is: $60 + $160 = $220

For E6400, motherboards are around $140, so: $240 + $140 = $380.

That's $160 left for a better video card!

I wouldn't consider the Pentium D, it was only a decnt option before the AMD price drops.

im getting a 256mb 7900GT, i found a 7950GTX2 that is on sale. But i have to wait tell my birthday to get it (september) so if the 7950GTX is still on sale im getting that, if not im getting 7900GT.

Don't forget about the need for new ram.
