I was designing a site to sell computer equipment, and for the main banner at the top I wanted to use images of dell PC's and nextel phones. Am I allowed to do this, and what are some of the legal issues concerning using pictures.

It's perfectly legal. Go head and do so. For it to be legal, however, the law requires you to send a letter to Dell and Nextel pointing them to your website. For convenience, please include your lawyer's contact information.

You kind of need to sell those products to advertise with them.
