copying to raid array corrupts files

Ive been downloading friends episodes lately, I download them to my c drive then transfer them over the the raid1 array (f: ) when they are done. unfortunately, every time I copy one over it messes up the checksum of the file. it also screws up the video w/ distortions and freezing frames. im gonna try killing the array and moving to jbod or raid0 later today or tonight, but does anyone have any experience w/ this?

its not just my divx friends episodes either, my mpg music videos are all getting corrupted too (w/ wierd chops and artifacts all over the video). ill restate the problem: I download to c:, the files are in perfect condition. I move them to f:, they get f'ed up. the movies still play, but w/ distortion and artifacts. I move them back to c:, they are still f'ed up.

8k3a+ (hpt 372 raid)
wd 800jb
2 x 60gb 60gxp in raid1

im running win2k, I have the latest highpoint drivers, and this SUCKS.

edit: damn smileys

Sounds less like the files are getting corrupted and more like you're having a problem playing them from the drive that's on the array. Is it possible that something is fubar'd in your RAID configuration?

like I said, if I copy them off of the raid array and back onto my good drive they are still messed up. i just separated the array, im gonna see if scandisk picks anything up

i just separated the array, im now running each drive as a single. I can now copy to each w/o any corruption. maybe I will rebuild the array, maybe I will just leave the drives as they are

but if I go back to raid I will have to do raid0, if i keep downloading like I have been the past few days im gonna need the extra 60gb

Hmm, I have the same mobo and am planning on doing RAID 0 with two of my WD400bb drives. I want to consolodate space into 1 area and have a faster drive for video work (I do editing.) I hope I won't run into this.

I experienced this one before however ... Several years ago I bought a 10 gig Maxtor drive and files I wrote to it simply got corrupted. THere was nothign wrong with the drive itself (it passed all tests.) I returned it and bought another and had no problems. My system wasn't overclocked or anything.

Overclocking has been known to lead to data corruption. In cases like this the on-board IDE may be able to take the overclocking whereas the HPT controller gives out and experiences errors faster (isn't as tolerant to an OC'd PCI bus.)

Do you overclock at all?

no, not overclocked

if we dont solve this problem its ok, I just wanna see if anyone else has ever had the same thing happen to them
