Copying old files from OS9 computer

I have a customer that has a bunch of old files on OS9 machines. They have a SBS 2003 server setup for Mac shares. If an OS9 computer copies the files to the server share, other OS9 systems can open the files normally. Yet when an OSX computer tries to open them, it thinks they are unix files and an error comes up and they will not open. If an OSX computer copies the files to the server, from the OS9 computers, then other OSX computers can open them normally from the server, but the OS9 computers cannot open them.

My guess is it is some sort of resource fork issue, but that is a guess, as I am not much of a Mac tech.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Have the customer add file extensions to the files in question. OSX will handle them MUCH better.

What's an SBS 2003 server?

Another option would be to zip/stuff the files before putting them on/copying down from the server.
