copying id's at a store?

When a store makes a copy of your drivers liscence when you buy alcohol, what do they do with it? I've never seen that before.

I've never had someone make a copy of my id when buying alcohol. And I damn sure wouldn't let them either.

well here in canada they wont photo copy them but theyll copy the license # and enter it into the computer.

we have licensed beer stores so only certain stores can sell it. Then basically they can match the upc of the bottles to your id if say a minor drinks it etc...

I've bought beer in PA before and they've never done that to me... PA is pretty anal when it comes to alcohol though.

Nope.

This store had also been busted multiple times last year for allowing underage people to buy alcohol without a liscence.

At bars however, they ask to scan your ID into the system. In dry cities, Unicard. (Basically ways to keep tab on you that you drank there)

The reason they are doing it is so that if the bureau comes back and says they sold alcohol to a minor, they can show that the person provided ID that appeared to be valid.
