Copying game CD's

I'm running W2K with Adaptec 5 "Platinum" and seem to be able to copy any audio cd or "off brand" game cd without any difficulty. However when I try to copy the latest MS game cd's they always fail. Does this mean that they're copy protected and is there
anything I can do to overcome this problem. All I really want to do is copy once to keep a working and original disk put away for safe keeping. any suggestion would be appreciated.

I agree clonecd is a good program...there is also a couple of good programs that try to identify type of disk security so you can go at it with the right program.

The newer the game the more likely it may be difficult...If the game is say 1 year old I think clone cd can handle most of these, but there is some new stuff out there that is difficult to beat...Its only a matter of time though.

If you can't do a successful copy of the game in a CD to CD backup, it's most likely that the game is copy protected. As Pretty Cool suggested, check out gamecopyworld.com. It has some useful stuff.

True, I use Nero and it doesn't do it.

I read about Plextor drives, supposedly if you have a Plextor reader and burner both, there's a setting for "copy everything just like it is no matter what". It get's the extra data or whatever it is that is the copy protection. Apparently most readers / burners skip over it as useless info, but with that combination you can get it.

Thus, if you're in the market for hardware, do some searching to see if this is really verified by a reputable hardware review site (such as this one).

Here's a good one though......I have and use, the new Adaptec , Nero, and CD Clone.......out of all of those Adaptec was the only one to successfully clone Nascar 4! If someone else has it, try it with Nero & CD Clone.....I use each quite a bit, but maybe I did something wrong, or had incorrect settings.......I thought this result was kind of odd because Clone CD is ussually the best......but maybe Adaptec is finally on to something here....... ;)

Well, that's cool for you.....did you try nascar 4??? I've talked to 9 people now who all agree Clone CD won't do it! BTW, there are about 9 games I have now that Clone CD won't copy and their tech support agrees that it won't copy ALL CD's.........;)

got a question about blind read and write, you have to copy the cd to the hard drive first to get those 2 to work??
excuse my ignorance :D

Thanks :)
