Copying DVD with a CD-R???

I think this is a scam, but I'm curious, so I thought I would ask what you all think. This link is for a company claiming you can use a regular CD-R in a computer to copy DVDs or turn VHS movies into DVD. Aren't they completely different formats? The only thing I can think of is that it converts it into a video CD that will play in most stand-alone DVD players. Any thought on this? I don't see how it can be possible, especially considering the size of most DVD movies. Maybe if it converted the movie to Divx (MPEG4) but stand-alone players don't work with that format (that I know of). Thanks
