Check with the manufacturer of the HD's website, they usually have utils to copy the HDs from old to new.

What bootprint said...

You might also check into using Norton Ghost. Ghost can do a drive to drive copy, and I have used it numerous times with success each time.

I'd check with the manufacturer first, though...that probably the cheapest option unless you have a copy of ghost in the closet.

Ok,

60G master, 200slave.

I copied the 60G HD to the 200G with Westerndigital Datalifegaurdutilities(both HDD's are WD)
One weird thing i noticed was that 9 files couldn't be copied. it said that windows would rebuild them automatically on the next boot.

Remove the 60G, put the 200 in it's place put the 200's jumper to CS (only thing on the cable, and at the end)

Reboot...

I see post, then my RAID posts, an we hang on a messege stating the hardware is not installed correctly.
So I poped of the jumper, same thing.

So I switch to Primary and boot. I see the "quiet" post, then my RAID posts, an we hang on "press F1 to continue or F2 to enter Setup"

F1 loops repeatedly saying "retry, press F1 to reboot or F2 to snter Setup"

F2 enters CMOS,
IDE0 is "unknown device", but shows size as 200.
IDE1 is off, or if i set to AUTO then it will also says "unknown device" but size is "n/a".
---------------------------

I still have all my data on my 60 gig, so i've lost nothing but time. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

so i tried again, this time using the DOS version of datalifegaurd. no problems coping any of the files this time.

same results on boot though,

no jumper or CS result in the drivee showing in CMOS as 200gig, but hangs on:

"Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.
could not read from the selected boot disk. check boot path and disk hardware."

jumper set to Primary shows nothing in cmos, and wont boot either (same as listed above)

I'm wondering if i might be able to do a windows repair instalation on the drive.
