Copy Windows 7 backup image to another HDD?

I currently have two WD640AAKS hard drives. I have recently ordered 5 400 gig drives and a 30gig OCZ Vertex SSD. I plan to use one of the drives as portable storage.

Anyway, when I installed W7 and installed all the drivers and updates I made a backup image using the W7 backup tool. Its 17.6gigs. What I would like to do when that SSD arrives is just copy that backup image to the drive and skip having to reinstall windows, download all the drivers, download all the updates, install my programs and tweak my settings.

Is this possible? Can I restore the backup to another formatted disc?

Yes, it is possible. You may want to check partition alignment, so your ssd will work well.
