Copy hard drive of X31 Thinkpad

I would like to upgrade my hard drive on my X31 laptop. I would really like to copy the recovery partition to the new drive (around 10gb) but I don't think it's as easy as just using ghost. The laptop did not ship with recovery cds. Does anyone have any experience with thinkpads in this matter?

i got rid of the recovery partition when I got my thinkpad. when I need to reformat on a new bigger hdd, I got a set of recovery disk from a guy for $10.

Call Leveno/IBM. Tell them you are upgradign to a larger HDD. THey might send you recovery disks for free. I think they cost around $35.00 USD. THere is a website somewhere on getting recovery disks for free, but my google search foo is weak right now.

For an x31 there would be a fee - $45.

Support won't help you migrate to a larger drive.

If you are using ghost corporate, you would use the -ID switch to capture the entire drive including the service partition.

Maybe use the utlility built in to burn new recovery discs, use them to setup the partitions on new HDD, then copy your main partition to new HDD and leave service partitions alone? I wouldn't use Ghost tho, it is terrible. I love Acronis TrueImage
