Copy boot record? I just need a little hint.

I'm running win2k pro. I decided at add a second hard drive which I decided would contain the boot partition. I copied the partition over and set the new partition to active. Now the system won't boot. It says invalid system disk. Makes sense, the boot record is empty or there isn't one. Is there anyway to copy it from the other drive? I'm not dual booting, so can I just do something similar to fdisk /mbr for a 98 partition? Will fdisk /mbr work for 2k?

I'm sure it's an easy fix. I just need a little push in the right direction.

Thanks.

a.) You cant boot from a HDD unless its jumpered as master
b.) You cant boot from a HDD unless it has system files (thats what youre missing) "Format E: /s"
system files are hidden files that dont "copy over" unless you use -h/ switch
c.) If you want to (non "C") boot from second drive, you must set boot sequence in BIOS: E/CDROM/SCSI
(for example)
d.) MBR only details partitioning and points to FAT tables. If you partitioned and formatted the second drive, -
you have an MBR. Your statement that you copied "the partition" is a bit fuzzy.

have i pushed enough?

edit: you made no mention of how you copied over the partition

You can try using a utility called "Drive Image" from PowerQuest. Also, Norton Ghost will work as well.

Good luck!

in newer systems you actually have to define the booting hd in the bios. you will see it in when defining the boot sequence in the bios. not sure if this applies to you.
