Our legal system is overtaxed as it is, and you guys want to waste taxpayer dollars tracking down prostitutes for catch-and-release?

See, I understand exactly what you mean by this...

I would argue however (just for sh1ts and giggles) that we are "evolving" our way of mating or courting, so to speak. With the flowers and sweet-talking and such. I'm a sucker for monogamy, and so are some women.

You guys have successfully changed part of my mind on this issue, though...

To his credit, he called a lot of others fascists, and simply said that your point of view didn't make any sense.

I'm glad we (or someone) gave you a reason to think - that's not bad for a Monday!

Wow.. I'm shocked; you are a better man than me. Usually, when I "revert" on a position that I'm debating, I'll usually tell the other person.. "let me think about it.." yea, Iknow its a cowards way out :)

Who is the victim?

Why should it be legal?

Because you have it backwards.

Why should sandwiches be legal? Why should television be legal?

Because paying to get a sandwich is not intrinsically immoral, paying to get p*ssy is.

Why would you want to legalize disgusting behavior?

Immoral by your standards?
And your stupid ass Bible thumping idiot flunkies that must beleive in some idiotic idea of some holy ghost and heaven?

I dont freakign think so...

Seperation of Church and State... not everyone is a moronic Bible thumping R tard..

Go to Europe.. and they were far more religious than most of our country and its legal and regulated..

Its not up to you people to tell others whats right and wrong to do with thier bodies..
or whom the can or cannot do it with..

If Lonely or Unsatisfied Joe wants to pay for a blow job who the hell are you to say he cant?

WOW! You've got my attention, but not because I'm interested in your side... You've got my attention now, because you're an F-ING MORON.

READ BACKWARDS A BIT, and you'd realize I don't fit your christian stereotype.

I wasn't going to bring this up, but now I have to.

I'm an atheist. I hate organized religion. I hate fascism. I'm part of AFA. I'm a HARDCORE supporter of gay rights, despite being straight. I'm anti-nationalism, anti-imperialism, anti-sheeple and anti-racism.

I'm also anti-prostitution. BOO FREEKING HOO, so I don't support government green-lighted solicitation of sex. Did I insult anyone here because they disagree with me? No sir. But I'm going to go ahead and insult you, because you're an idiot.

Now kindly, asshole. GTFO.

And who made you lord god king bufu? who are you to judge what a man and a woman do behind closed doors?
Hmmm?

You may call me an Asshole.. But hey... Im the one that beleieve in live and let live.. until it affects me... and you radical religious or no religious buttholes that think just becasue YOU dont think something is ok.. everyone else has to be punsihed for it...

Now protitution and drugs..
Soon Violence and Video games..

Alright man, you're like 13 years old but I'll throw you one last piece of my mind before I forget this conversation between us happened.

I'm not for controlling people's lives. I would never take away the right to play violent video games or whatever and I'm all for personal freedoms. I'm sure you don't support VIOLENCE, that was a typo on your part, correct? But I'm not going to support LEGALIZATION of prostitution.

I'm not exactly happy that it's outlawed completely, in fact I'm actually a bit more curious as to why it IS completely outlawed due to the REAL discussion I had with the other guys here. That was before you flew off the handle, and I responded in kind.

That being said, I'm done here.

I actually came away from this discussion with a piece of understanding of why the others here are not quick to ban prostitution.

But you? You're not even trying to argue here, you're just throwing out insults. I'm sure you're trying to come off as "revolutionary" and "open minded" but you're not. You just sound childish.

The one argument that had ANY sort of relevance from you was "who are you to judge what a man and woman do behind closed doors?", but that has already been said to me, and far more eloquently. Because of that eloquence, I actually got what they were saying, and rethought my side. Good attempt at shabbily rehashing an old argument, though.

Like I said before, come back with you're own, REAL arguments.

The only one throwing insults is you..
I never called you names or singled you out..
whats wrong self reflection hurt?

I'm 37 with wife and kids.. and I believe in freedom..
Prostitution is a Crime only because of religious fanatics.
Look at the state of Nevada, not in the bible belt and Gambling and prostitution legal and THRIVING..
And no one is getting hurt.

I didnt read every single reply in this thread I responded to what was the biggest pile of poo I ran into..

So I'm so sorry i repeated what someone else had already said.

.. well not really It was worth repeating...
WHAT BUSINESS IS IT OF YOURS OR ANYONE ELSE WHAT PEOPLE DO BEHIND CLOSED DOORS...

hope you don't engage in oral or Anal sex with your wife or GF or BF.. cause believe it or not those same people that are anti prostitution, anti porn also have laws on the books in many states that make those acts illegal..

Would you rather them on welfare?

haha, here we go.

You're actually going to defend her position? Here's what I say to suburban and ghetto prostitutes. GET A REAL JOB.

It's pathetic and disgusting, and if they can't figure out any way to make money besides using their body, then they should probably say hello to Mr. Natural Selection.

This is coming from a "dirty liberal" too. Prostitution is pathetic, so is stripping.

Oh, and lastly, I'm getting plenty, from my respectable hard working fiancee.

She's working in the service industry, why should it be illegal?

Who is the victim?

Why should it be legal?

Everything is legal except that which has been deemed ILLEGAL. Your thinking is backwards.

No body here knows that it is legal in certain counties in Nevada?
Regulated too.

I'm not sure about literally legalizing prostitution, but I'm definitely going to have to ponder it... And hard.

You guys are right, there shouldn't be any ban on what two consenting adults do in private.

(Okay you brought me back in.)

That is a very large assertion that you are making--on the evolution of mating habits for people. You would need years of research and lots of evidence to back that up.

It would be an extremely radical position to take that courtship is a natural phenomenon, intrinsic to humans and the evolution of our species, while commerce is not. Both are constructs of the human imagination. They are things that we have created from social progression.

Largely, if you accept the idea of courtship (flowers, sweet-talking, and all that other boorish crap) as "natural", then you would have to accept the fact that things like the exchange of money for a service (aka commerce) is just as natural for our species. Prostitution is the exchange of money for a service.

It seems more of a case of what you'd like to believe rather than what is. Hell you even admitted in quote that you are a sucker for monogamy. Could it be any more clear?

BUT that is ignoring the fact that we can consciously go against nature. There is absolutely nothing wrong with making a choice that isn't in the "genetic cards". If we make a higher-level cognitive decision (mental, rather than what natural biology dictates) is that "immoral" ?

I just can't comprehend that.

total waste of tax payer money. it basically boils down to government enforcing religious morality, in the past we had others like homosexuality, antimiscegination laws etc. all based on nonsense. you should be free to do what you please with your body as long as it doesn't harm others.

the only kind of hookers they should arrest are the heather mills types.

And this is why I wrote:
(just for sh1ts and giggles) :p

It is social development, not REAL evolution, I know. And I'm willing to bet it has quite a bit to do with jewelery, chocolate, and other "romance" businesses.

Perhaps I'm being naive, but it could also have something to do with an increased level of inter-respect for one another, as society advances. We may just feel an increased need to be nicer to each other.

Either way it is completely in our heads, whether or not it's a good thing...

I don't exactly agree that paying for sex comes with social growth, though. I actually think that the rate of prostitution may go down, simply because people will respect women more than in the past. I don't believe that paying for sex is respect, any more than paying for a video game means you respect the company you're purchasing it from.

Again, I'm not saying that prostitution is something I shun, at least not anymore. It's just not a form of respect, IMO.

I'm out for the night. This was a great discussion, though... Thank you.

Sure, but why should disgusting behavior be illegal in the first place? If our politicians were beholden to the "moral" laws that they champion, then well...oh nvm.

Prostitution is kind of like the abortion issue for me. I don't condone it, endorse it, and I'd be damned if I'd allow someone in my family to do it. However, I agree that people should have thier own opinions and should have the right to do as they please with thier body.

We all know prostitution exists, but at least keep underground where the filthy people who support it belong as well.

Filthy people like the millions upon millions of men who work everyday jobs, from all walks of life? Including the ones who likely live in and around your neighbourhood?

Do you know what the odds are someone you have worked with has had sex with a prostitute? It's pretty damn high, even in the white collar work world.

These women are capitalizing on the wants of men. There is nothing immoral about that.

That's a good point. Perhaps, if it were legal there could be some gov't regulation on it that would ensure that the practice is safe.

Once again, however, this is something that I, personally, do not condone.

Exactly. If she is a consenting adult, then in my opinion there's no crime and nothing morally wrong.

It is wrong to legislate morality for its own sake. Unless there is a clear victim, there should be no crime.

Actually, I agree with both sides of this 'who is the victim' argument. In some cases, you have the high-price call girls who are well-paid, taken care of, and provide a service that they are very good at (They can accompany you to high class affairs, are good in social situations, and perform very well afterwards...). I wouldn't consider them victims. Then, there are the Jodie Foster 'Taxi Driver' prostitutes, who are under-age runaways pulled in by the wrong crowd, convinced they have no other option in life, etc...frequently abused and exploited by pimps and Johns. It's hard for me to argue that in the latter case, this really is the prostitute's 'choice.'

Sorry, but that lame argument can be made against a plethora of jobs where workers are exploited by their employers, not just prostitution.

What we're arguing isn't the morality of rich prostitutes versus poor ones; we're arguing the morality of being able to sell sex as a service.

Is it "intrinsically immoral" to give someone a massage?

What if that massage involves some touching of the genitals?

What if, during the course of a "traditional" massage, the recipient has an orgasm?

What if the massage is done with a tongue?

What if the massage is done with a tongue and is focused on the recipients genitals?

Where is the clear cut line between massage and intrinsically immoral?

The difference here is it can be argued that abortion DOES have a victim, whereas it's not so clear cut in prostitution.
