Meh, people overreact to all this tazing.
It may not be a pleasant thing, but it's very short, generally has no long term side effects, and it's quick.
About the deaf guy, it sucks to be him .... the cops could have, and perhaps should have, used their brains a bit more.

But ... I'd rather read about people getting tazed then people really getting hurt ...

have YOU ever been tased?

its NOT a pleasant experience. i'd rather get pepper sprayed.

You're full of shit if you'd rather get hit with OC spray than get tased. Getting tased stings like a bitch, but when it's over, it's over.

OC spray was comparably a nightmare. Wearing contacts afterwards was impossible. I felt like shit for a half hour afterwards and still didn't feel right until a couple of hours later. Eyes were still a little jacked up even after that.

So quite frankly, I'm saying you're full of shit when you say you've been hit with either.

More importantly, he was wearing a towel. Where'd they think he was hiding a weapon? Up his ass?

They do it in prison! :D

this just reaffirms my opinion that cops are getting too lazy.

I agree. They are far too quick to use tasers in almost any situation these days.

well they arent paid to get into fist fights nor is it their job.

They also aren't paid to go snooping through personal property.

Tazers are obedience compliance tools, not as a less-lethal tool for defense as intended.
anything other than deadly force is intended to be used a compliance tools. mace, baton, tazer...

You don't obey the almighty cop, you get tased into compliance. Wooo yeah go America.
its always been that way and always will be. Try resisting a Russian or Iraqi cop and see what happens to you.

BS. It happened when they started hiring women and people not physically and mentally fit for the job.

True police work went out the door years ago. Being able to talk and observe has taken a back seat to immediate compliance. Cops are just glorified meter maids with guns and tasers to most municipalities.

Just as the military has gotten lax in their requirements, so has the police forces. The physical requirements for city cops here is amazing. Able to climb a 3ft wall, run a half mile in 8 minutes, crap like that.

Combined with asinine drug laws, officers unfit mentally and physically with a self-serving attitude, and you get the police force we have today.

Women can be cops, but the vast majority just can't measure up. Gone are the boxing programs during training that didn't care if you had a broken arm or leg, you got your ass beat by the other guy. It was about building people up to be better than they originally were. Now the program gets dragged down the lowest common denominator.

Don't worry, more technology will make us safer. More helicopters, more helicopters with infrared sight, more tasers, more mobile computers, more wi-fi (READ 802.11g here people) muni networks to keep those mobile computers "on-line", more cell phones for each sworn officer along with Police Band radios, more cameras at intersections.

Don't worry, more technology will make us safer.

I'm usually the first to jump all over trigger-happy cops, but this sounds like an honest (albeit REALLY stupid) mistake.

You know...it seems like cops are making many more mistakes since this whole tazer thing hit the media spotlight. I would like to find out for a fact whether or not it is just the media making it look like tazers are resulting in cops using force more often and thus more mistakes happening or if just as many mistakes happened before tazer but just in a different way. I would like to know what that different way was too.

Currently, I support this whole tazer thing but it is so hard to make an educated opinion about them with the way that the media is portraying it. You never seem to read about the cases where tazers were used in a manner which helped protect the officers instead of forcing them to resort to using mace or their gun.

Because that doesn't sell...nobody wants to hear about good cops saving lives - they'd rather fuss about bad cops. Regardless, here are a few videos for you.

Ya, I know. Same story. Same reason. Different day. It's just a shame that something which can be really useful in law enforcement is getting such bad publicity. Tazers or no tazers I wish the media would focus more on the bad cops themselves rather than the tools the use. I know it's all about money and ratings but it just sucks. It hurts our country more than it helps.

On topic: tazing seems to be the defacto standard when encountering all citizens these days. Fucking cops.

Not all of them... Come on, if you make comments like that, the pro-authoritarian people will get the wrong idea about our side of the argument. Unless you really do hate ALL cops, in that case, I am not on your side.

not all. not even a majority.

most are honest hard working people. Though it does seem more time they spend on the job the more they lose sight of what the job is.

I have this theory as well. No idea if it is true though. Probably a case by case basis.
