So if he's passed out drunk on the couch, they come in & yell at him with no response, what is the next correct move? If I'm responding to an alarm I sure as hell am not going to go tap him on the shoulder.

How about cuffing him, genius? Or how about nudging him with your foot while keeping a gun trained on him? Jesus, are you really that stupid that your best solution for a sleeping suspect is to TAZE him?

I'm a little reluctant to believe that they tased him AFTER he showed them ID.

It sounds like he was drunk.

Imagine that you're at home, drunk, passed out. You wake up in a frenzy with two guys tasing you for absolutely no reason. What do you do? Try to kick their asses. What do they do? Tase you again, and again, until you stop.

except they had absolutely no reason to taze him in the first place

I can't say i beleive that 100% BUT no matter what he shouldnt have been tazed to begin with.

It's hard to say "no matter what" without knowing what actually happened. I can guarantee that the linked articles are inaccurate.

lol @ your post full of irony.

it's hard for waggy to be right about saying no matter what he shouldn't have been tazed, but you can 100% guarantee the articles are incorrect.

I've been Tased. I've seen other people Tased. The descriptions in the article are inaccurate.

NORTH BRADDOCK, Pa. - Two North Braddock police officers won't face criminal charges for Tasering a man who was asleep at home. But the FBI will review the incident for possible civil rights violations.

Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. says county police determined Officers Gerard Kraly and Lukas Laeuricia (loo-REE'-see-uh) didn't commit a crime when they Tasered Shawn Hicks, who was sleeping on his couch.

Police came to Hicks home because they were alerted by a silent security alarm at his home about 2 a.m.

Hicks says the officers Tasered him again after he woke up and showed them ID to prove he lived at the home. Hicks' attorney says he will pursue civil action.

Information from the Post-Gazette. If the articles were entirely true, I'd think this would be all over CNN...but I suppose I could be wrong.

CNN doesn't care when there's no video.

He did trigger the alarm, and they were responding to it.

What I want to know is whether or not he was drunk. Forgets to turn off the alarm? Crashes on the couch without even undressing? Sounds like drunk behavior to me.

So if he's passed out drunk on the couch, they come in & yell at him with no response, what is the next correct move? If I'm responding to an alarm I sure as hell am not going to go tap him on the shoulder.

Viper GTS

uh cuff him?

Seriously, is it that mysterious of a solution?

Obviously you're the one with the reading comprehension issues, since I explicitly said that I was not going to support their decision to use the taser.

I was just looking for suggestions that would accomplish the same thing as the taser. Namely:

Keep him out of reach until he was awake and compliant.

Asking them to "just cuff him" is a recipe for disaster. Anyone who can't see that is a fool.

orly now? As anybody who has ever gotten hammered enough to PTFO and not wake up to ANYTHING can tell you, the guy probably would not have realized that he was even cuffed. They could've cuffed him, shook the FUCK out of him until he woke up, at which point the first words out of his mouth would be "huh?".

They walked in on him sleeping, christ. Why the fuck would you need to taze a guy like that.

Because they were white and he was black. I thought I made that point already up there a ways.

Me thinks the city of whatever is going to be paying this guy some money. Sounds to me like the cops just wanted to try out their tasers. :D

Reading this comment there:

And for the LEO cheerleaders that always show up, here's a handy template of terms:

"It was an isolated incident."

"A few rogue officers..."

"All the cops I know are..."

"We don't know the whole story yet."

"He might have threatened to the officers with his snoring."

then reading some of the comments here make me lol. :D

Pretty much. Even with that incident where the cop was CAUGHT ON TAPE harassing that guy and promising to make false charges on him, there were a couple apologists who actually had the gall to stand up for the crooked cop.

How is 2 cops putting a sleeping man in an arm bar and cuffing him a recipe for disaster?

I'm not connecting the dots.

Like?

Mr. Hicks flapped his arms wildly, but didn't fall
If he's spasming that badly, he's not staying upright.

After removing the pellets from his bloody back
Firstly, they're not pellets. Secondly, you're not going to be bloody. Maybe after the probes are removed, but nowhere near the extent indicated here:

The back of his shirt was soaked with warm, sticky blood.
If 'back of his shirt' means two dime-sized sections, I could believe it, though it's rare for it to bleed even that much.

So they saw a black dude sleeping in a house and immediately thought he was a burglar?

Fixed. But really? Who knows...if the story is even remotely true, he'll probably be getting a hefty check.

That's crazy. Imagine if the house really was burglarized and the owner was incapacitated by the burglar. Then Barney Fife and company come waltzing into the house tazering the victim. Would you still be defending the cops then? Sure, that isn't what happened but it might as well have been, given that these cops did no investigating.

Take alcohol from people, too...'cause they keep drinking and driving.
