Super-Tough Cops Take Down 70-Pound High School Girl Who Wanted To Keep Her Cell Phone

Two Houston, Texas school district police officers pinned a 15-year-old girl face down on the floor on Tuesday because she didn’t want to relinquish her cell phone to an assistant principal.

The girl, sophomore Ixel Perez, weighs 70 pounds, according to her brother. She attends Sam Houston High School.

In a video of the incident, one of the cops who tackled the girl can be seen ramming his knee into the side of her head

The incident happened after the teacher in Perez’s reading class busted her using a cell phone in class.

Student cell phone use is prohibited at Sam Houston High. Students caught using cell phones are required to give their phones to school officials. They must then pay a fine at the end of the day to get their phones back.

The reading teacher ordered her to leave the classroom and go into the hallway.

Once Perez was standing in the hallway, an assistant principal approached her and demanded that she give up her phone. Perez said she wanted to keep her phone because her mother was having medical problems.

When Perez tried to walk away, the assistant principal called the police.

“Both of the cops just tackled her down to the floor”

Perez also noted that she was speaking with her mother when the police officers accosted her.

The Perez family has indicated that the sophomore will no longer attend Sam Houston High.

Overboard on both the assistant principal's part to call police and them to physically restrain her, but I have no sympathy for her - if a police officer gives you a lawful order you comply, period. If it takes some people getting repeated blows to the head to get that message through then so be it.

no sympathy for her at all. the rules for student cell phones was clear and she refused to comply and was disruptive/combative.

Looks like the rest of students are now safe from that 70lb cell phone wielding girl.

I love the appeal to emotion. You don't care about why she was "taken down", what's important was that she was female and only weighed 70lbs.

If you and Oldgamer hate these big, bad, evil cops so much, then don't call them when someone is buglarizing your home, or robs you.

Both the assistant principal and the cops have a little bit of cartman in them.

So there are no extenuating circumstances that allow for a child to be able to have cell phone usage excused? Like family medical issues?

Gee, and teachers wonder why they are hated.

What other government agency can take your property with no due process, then demand payment before the property is returned.

What is the difference between a child abuser and a teacher?

Teachers get paid to abuse children.

Cops make excellent paperpushers, and are essential in the insurance claims process. They are not good at keeping the peace in a tense situation. So what you are saying is completely invalid, and shows just how much of a statist you are.

If that was my daughter i'd be irate. Pinned with knee on her head by multiple security guards,... over cell phone?

Yea, the girl likely deserved being reprimanded for breaking rules with the cell phone. Clearly this doesn't mean she needs to be treated like she was.

Kick her out of class for breaking rules? -yea, good fine

Suspend her if she continues to be combataive and non compliant? - Sure, deserved

Need to get physical? - No, none, whatsover

Ok to mistreat young women who are not a threat as long as it's being done by officer? Fuck that. How can these guys be so incapable of thinking or using any discretion at all?

Do you think this kind of shit would ever go down or be tolerated at a private school? Sorry poor and underprivileged of the USA, please proceed in line to be turned to chum by the system that feeds you to the wealthy and privileged. Don't like it? Sit back and vote D isn't going to do shit.

like those camps they are building for the homeless in Hawaii?

how do they not understand what will happen.. it becomes just a pragmatic move, once you have established camps...to make them efficient....and how do you do that? if the homeless keep arriving, because the economy is being saturated with emerging new markets all around the globe...

it's scary.

BS!!! A Policeman`s word is NOT the Law.....
I recently was standing outside my home and I witnessed a very brutal accident. I was recording it on my cell phone standing in my yard.
The Policeman saw that I was recording and asked me if I had the accident recorded. I said YES!! The Policeman told me that video was evidence and to give him my cell phone!
I told Policeman you are trespassing on my property without my permission and that you need to warrant to confiscate my phone!
He told me that is not true.....that video is evidence! I told him to pound sand!! Of course it helped that there were maybe 1/2 a dozen friends video recording what the Policeman was saying to me....

Completely insane. Run her up the disciplinary ladder as far as you need to, even expel her if it gets to that point, but calling the police over a school rule violation is insane.

There will be an excessive force lawsuit, and she will likely win. The school will then implement a different verity of stupidity to deal with the problem.

Rude adolescent girl that can't imagine that the rules apply to her.

Incompetent law enforcement personnel.

Merica!

Where we are all special snowflakes that neither have to obey the rules nor be competent with our jobs.

Her weight, apparently, is of major concern here. Maybe its because she's way below Texas norms. :hmm:

zero cause to get physical and in my book assault.

when the student refused to hand over the phone the AP should have sent her home and given her a 2 day suspension.

the security guards were thugs and need to be sued.

Serves her right. She should know to comply when asked. Insubordination will not be tolerated!

Give your phone to police or be tackled. :hmm:

I guess she should be thankful she wasn't tasered or shot.

When did this become a police state? Absurd overreaction and poor leadership and disciplinary policies for people in charge of children.

Let the lawsuits and firings begin.
